A Pentagon official told U.S. officials Tuesday that there has been a “growing number” of unidentified objects in the sky for 20 years, without going so far as to confirm the existence of extraterrestrial life.

For the first time in more than 50 years, the US Congress has held a public hearing dedicated to “unidentified aerial events”.

“Since the early 2000s, we have seen an increase in the number of unauthorized or unidentified items,” said Scott Bray, deputy director of U.S. Navy intelligence.

The official said that “significant efforts” by the U.S. military to “tarnish the surveillance reporting process” and lead to technological advances.

However, he pointed out that he did not find anything that could “suggest a non-Earth origin” for these events. But did not categorically rule out the possibility.
